It’s More Than Just a Campground

If you have never ventured past Hana Highway onto Camp Keanae you are in for a surprise!   There is an absolute serenity and peacefulness about these 9 acres overlooking the ocean.  It is not just a beautiful picture of nature and a place to stay on Hana Highway, the Y is so much more than that.  We are committed to making a difference in people’s lives through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Because of that commitment, the Y Camp Keanae has become a place where youth and families gather for community events & meetings, weddings, AA weekends, company retreats, youth camps, hikes, drum, dance, music and yoga workshops, senior outings, family reunions, taro patch tours with local farmers, community clean-up days and wellness weekends. At the Y, our goal is to bring families and youth and communities, closer together, promote healthy living and foster connections through wholesome fun and shared experiences.

Last year, a 4th grade class from Haiku Elementary came out during our annual Multi Cultural Drum & Dance Conference. Their teacher took a Congolese dance class while the kids cheered her on and then all the children learned the art of Congo drumming on the lanai.  Their enthusiasm and laughter was infectious.  Their letters afterward claimed their day at the Y was the best field trip ever!

What the Y receives from the community goes back into the community – giving back and providing support to our neighbors – to make Maui a better place for all of us.  If you haven’t seen the Y Camp Keanae lately, come out for a personal tour, or better yet, make a plan to bring your family and friends out for a camping/cabin weekend and experience it firsthand.
