 45th Annual Maui Marathon and Half Marathon

Maui, Hawaii – The 45th annual Maui Marathon and Half Marathon, is scheduled for the weekend of September 18-20, 2015. The race starts at 5 am for both the full and half marathon.

The Maui Marathon is known to be the oldest marathon west of the Rocky Mountains and has been voted the seventh best in the U.S. The event brings in more than 6,000 athletes, spectators, family members and friends to Maui, which has been voted the best island in the world by Conde Nast Traveler for 18 years. It also consists of a Health & Fitness Expo and multiple walking/running sub-events for everyone at different levels. These include the Slappy Cakes 10k, the Maui Tacos 5k, the Run Forrest Run Front Street Mile and the Runner’s Paradise Warrior Challenge.

Fins & Flippers Tour Upgrade

Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays in September

Join a knowledgeable marine naturalist and discover fascinating facts about sharks and sea turtles. Go behind-the-scenes and explore the Aquarium lab and discover what it takes to care for the marine animals. Story Time Saturdays

Children ages 3-12 are invited to a captivating story time followed by a fun ocean-themed craft!  Story Time Saturdays are hosted by a marine naturalist and takes place every Saturday at 11:30am in Maui Ocean Center’s Hawaiians and the Sea exhibit.

Talk Story & Hula Lessons with Kahu Dane Maxwell and ‘Ohana

Visitors to Maui Ocean Center will have an extraordinary opportunity to hear from Maui Ocean Center’s Hawaiian Cultural Advisor Kahu Dane Maxwell. At 11:45am, Kahu Dane Maxwell and ‘Ohana (family) will conduct a talk story session and hula lesson at the end of the Open Ocean exhibit tunnel. Schedule subject to change. Appropriate for all ages.

Turtle-rrific Thursday

Thursdays, September 3 & 17 at 2pm

Guests can learn about Hawaii’s beloved green sea turtles in an up close and personal setting. This interactive presentation is hosted by Maui Ocean Center’s curatorial team at Hammerhead Harbor. Guests will learn about the biology, behavior and diet of green sea turtles from the team that cares for the animals on a daily basis.
