International Coastal Cleanup Day!
Join the Maui Huliau Foundation September 17th 9-11:30am in front of Hawaiian Canoe Club for our 3rd annual beach cleanup as part of International Coastal Cleanup Day. At the end of the cleanup we will join the Mālama Maui Nui cleanup on the other side of the harbor for lunch and ice cream. We will also be doing an ocean-inspired film showing that evening in Pāʻia behind POME surf shop. Starting at 7pm there will be a variety of local vendors and artist booths. The film showing starts at 7:30pm featuring The Coralax claymation film by Maui Huliau students, Our Oceans, Our Future made by UC Santa Barbara and a coalition of Hawaiʻi non-profits including Maui Huliau Foundation, and Shelter, a 2001 surf film featuring various well-known surfers.

We pay tribute to agricultural harvest time during this annual Chinese Moon Festival at Wo Hing Museum & Cookhouse on Front Street in Lahaina from 1 to 7 pm.
Chinese teas and moon cakes will be served under the sky to the accompaniment of traditional Chinese music with an erhu string instrument and gu zheng harp instrument each evening. Enjoy exhibits and a local produce display, cultural activities like calligraphy and knot tying, and Hawai’i FengShui.
Kids can learn how to plant seeds, and make paper lanterns. Hear a talk on history of moon festivals, and watch Chinese cooking demonstrations. Admission is free.

Wet Naturalist

See, touch, and learn about Hawaii’s marine invertebrates with a marine naturalist! Encounter Hawaii’s tide pool critters during a fun, interactive presentation. A marine naturalist will conduct the presentation from within the Discovery Pool or Tide Pool exhibit with sea cucumbers, sea stars, urchins, and other critters. Included with Aquarium admission.

Featuring a monthly, rotating- themed Exploration Station at Maui Ocean Center’s Living Reef! Speak with a marine naturalist and learn about turtles in August, marine debris in September, and marine invertebrates in October. Station features include interactive displays, microscopes, and small live animals depending on the theme. Included with Aquarium admission.
