Students at Maui preschools and elementary schools are in for a treat this winter when Maui Academy of Performing Arts’ Educational Theatre Tour brings Tea Time for Ogres to schools across the island. Based on the Japanese folktale Momotaro, the 40-minute original musical tells the story of two bullies who learn a valuable lesson about the transformative power of forgiveness and friendship.

Tea Time for Ogres, written by Maui playwright Derek Nakagawa with music by Marti Kluth, features four of Maui’s most talented performers – Dylan Bode, Kirsten Otterson, Derek Nakagawa and Kim Vetterli on keyboard. Classroom teachers have online access to grade-level study guides, with discussion guidelines and lesson plans that connect the concepts in the show to Common Core State Standards. From November 18-21, a special Cyber Sale will go live exclusively at shop.mauioceancenter.com granting shoppers early access to the sale collection. Aquarium admission is not required to shop.

Fins & Flippers Tour Upgrade

Join a knowledgeable marine naturalist and discover fascinating facts about sharks and sea turtles. Go behind-the-scenes and explore the Aquarium lab and discover what it takes to care for the marine animals. Story Time Saturdays

Saturdays in November at 11:30 AM

Children ages 3-12 are invited to a captivating story time followed by a fun ocean-themed craft! Story Time Saturdays are hosted by a marine naturalist and takes place every Saturday at 11:30am in Maui Ocean Center’s Hawaiians and the Sea exhibit.

Talk Story & Hula Lessons with Kahu Dane Maxwell and ‘Ohana

Tuesdays in November, 11:45 AM

Hear from Maui Ocean Center’s Hawaiian Cultural Advisor Kahu Dane Maxwell. At 11:45am, Kahu Dane Max- well and ‘Ohana (family) will conduct a talk story session and hula lesson at the end of the Open Ocean exhibit tunnel. Schedule subject to change. Appropriate for all ages.

Wet Naturalist

Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in November

1:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Join a Wet Naturalist at the Tide Pool and/or Discovery Pool for a hands-on presentation about Hawaii’s marine invertebrates! Engage with a marine naturalist presenting from within the exhibit to see, touch, and learn about sea stars, sea cucumbers, urchins and more spineless sea creatures.
