Cups! Plates! Bowls! Birdhouses! Tiles! And More! In this introductory ceramics class, students will create their own functional art as they explore the handling of clay using wheel throwing, handbuilding, glazing, and texturing techniques.

Adventures in Abstraction

Painters, grab your brushes! Get ready to learn about and create your own cubist, surrealist, impressionist, and pop art paintings. Keiki will be introduced to the ideas of using arbitrary colors, capturing movement, fragmenting objects, creating expressionistic brush strokes, and using their extraordinary imaginations!
Drawing from Nature: A Botanical Studies Workshop
August 9th & 16th
Saturdays, 2 weeks,10:00am–12:00 pm

Students will learn basic botany—identifying the parts of plants, how they grow, and how they are classified—and will create a series of graphite sketches using this knowledge. Students will then invent their very own never-before-seen plant and create a botanical illustration in the traditional style using ink and watercolor pencils. Students will also plant a seed to bring home and will watch it grow!
Manipulating Metal: An Introduction to Jewelry
August 13 – September 17
Wednesdays, 6 weeks, 3:30–5:30pm

Students will learn the foundational elements of jewelry design: cutting, drilling, piercing, and soldering metal. Projects include pendants, bracelets, earrings and/or rings. You’ll finish class with the beautiful jewelry creations of your own design! No previous jewelry class is required!

Want to learn the fundamental concepts of video game design and screen-based storytelling? This class utilizes basic animation techniques in Adobe Flash CS4 to create works emphasizing screen-based interaction and non-linear narrative.
