Ashli_BlackDoes your child like art?  Why not get involved in this year’s Mālama Wao Akua art contest held in September? Teach kids about rainforest ecology and Maui’s native species through art by entering the East Maui Watershed Partnership (EMWP) and Viewpoint’s Gallery  10th annual juried art show in Makawao. Mālama Wao Akua (realm of the Gods) was created to help raise awareness about Maui’s unique plants and animals. The subject of the art piece must be native to Maui Nui, and there is a $5 student entry fee. There are 3 keiki divisions – elementary, middle school, and high school. Get your whole class involved and invite EMWP to come do a presentation on native plants and animals or take you on a hike in the native rainforest. More information and tips for parents and teachers can be found at mwa-art.org or contact EMWP at (808)573-6999.
