PaintingThe Makawao Drop in Center opened last fall in a brand new classroom tucked away under avocado and lychee trees in the heart of Makawao. Owner Angela Dusenberry wanted to create a unique business targeted to families of children ages 2-5 looking for a preschool environment, but not in need of full-day childcare. The idea has been well received, ending the school year with two full classes, each meeting for 2.5 hours two days per week, for an affordable $250/month.

Diana Larose, a parent of one of the students, says she “loves that every day is set up for a new adventure.” Classes include free play; circle time; music; texture table play; art; letter, number and shape games; dance; bubbles; snack time; and outside play in their jungle paradise complete with a tree fort. Robyn Sarno, another parent, says, “We love Makawao Drop in Center! Twice a week my daughter races me to the door.”
