Grant Received for Wheelchair Tennis in Hana

WAILUKU, Maui, Hawai`i – The Department of Parks and Recreation announced that its Recreation and Support Services Division has received a grant from the United States Tennis Association 2012 Grassroots Wheelchair Tennis initiative in the amount of $1,410. The grant will fund the expansion of the Wheelchair Tennis program in the East District, Hana section; the program is currently offered in Central Maui.

This expansion will increase the recreation opportunities for the Hana community by allowing individuals who require mobility support to play tennis. This free program will be offered in the Spring and Summer of 2013, for participants of all abilities. Players are asked to bring water for hydration.

The County’s Wheelchair Tennis program uses all-sport adaptive “Quickie” wheelchairs provided by the Department of Parks and Recreation. Professional tennis and wheelchair tennis instructors are also available as scheduling and time allow.
