pg 18You may start out your summer strong, full of enthusiasm for time with your keiki, but after the tenth trip to the beach your ideas and energy may begin to wane. Here are some fun things to do in the summer, which will hopefully keep your enthusiasm going until that school bell rings and classes are back in session. One way to combat the summer blues is by creating a family summer bucket list. Here are a few things to add to yours:

  • Go for a hike.
  • Visit your kid’s favorite playground.
  • Start a container garden together.
  • Build a blanket fort and “camp” in the living room.
  • Bake cookies and take them to your local fire station.
  • Play in the sprinkler.
  • Go to the local pool.
  • Go on a scavenger hunt together.
  • Make ice cream.
  • Take an art class.
  • Have a water balloon fight.
  • Visit story time at the local library.
  • Visit Haleakala National Park.
  • Watch the stars at night.
  • Play “I Spy.”
  • Get a pet rock.
  • Nap in a hammock.
  • Go shelling.
  • Make a necklace from your shell finds.
  • Clean up a beach one morning.
  • Have a play-date.
  • Make homemade bubbles.
  • Make paper airplanes.
  • Take a bike ride.
  • Play volleyball.
  • Watch the clouds and pick out shapes.
