springtime activities 1“Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.” – Laura Ingalls Wilder

Springtime on Maui has both the fresh air and sunshine that you crave once winter gives its last bit of rain and cold. Across the island you can find many activities to enjoy that will get you outside!

  • Check out a local festival. The Haiku Ho’olaule’a & Flower Festival takes place each April in Haiku, Hawaii. This free festival features live music, local arts and crafts, farmers market, historical exhibits, floral making contests, keiki zone, food trucks and more! All proceeds go toward the keiki of Haiku School, Boys and Girls Club, and the Haiku Community Association. Visit haikuhoolaulea.org for more information. Another local festival is the East Maui Taro Festival in Hana, Hawaii. This festival is rich in Hawaiian tradition and features farmers market, poi pounding, food booths, music, hula, arts and crafts, and more! Visit www.tarofestival.org for more information.
  • Drive Upcountry to see the beautiful jacaranda trees. These amazing lavender blossoming trees show off their glory each spring along many of Maui’s upcountry roads. It’s worth the drive to Kula, and you can stop at Grandma’s Coffee House in Keokea for a cup of coffee along the way.
  • Go on an outrigger canoe tour. Getting out on the Pacific on an outrigger, just as islanders did in centuries past, will give you an experience to last a lifetime. You may even spot some whales in the earlier spring months! If you don’t want to do a tour, but would still enjoy the experience of a canoe paddle, check out Mana’olana Pink Paddlers, a local non-profit canoe club that meets at Sugar Beach on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Visit manaolanapinkpaddlersmaui.org for more information.

Maui is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors, so be sure to put on your adventurer cap and get out in the fresh air and sunshine this spring!
