Have Fun This Summer by Hosting an Exchange Student from France! July 2-23 – Ages 13-17

May 10, 2016 - July 23, 2016

Aloha Maui Residents! Have you or someone you know ever hosted a foreign exchange student? Hosting an international student is an exciting and rewarding experience that brings people together from around the world. Whether you have hosted a student or are considering hosting for the first time, we encourage you to join the fun this summer and learn about French culture with Ace International!

Program dates:
MAUI: July 2-23
OAHU: July 30 – August 20

Join the fun this summer and sign up to host 1 or 2 teenagers from France in your home, ages 13-17, for three weeks! Build lifelong friendships with students from across the globe. Hosting an exchange student is a great way to explore another culture and broaden your perspective of the world without ever leaving home!

~ What is a Host Family?
A Host Family is someone who shares their home, culture, and life with an exchange student, in this case, a French student. Host Families have the opportunity to create lasting memories and lifelong international friends with these students. Host families receive a $400 allowance for hosting one student or $700 for two students; to help with the cost of food and gas. While the students are visiting they have the opportunity to practice speaking English with their host family and learn about every day life in Hawaii. We encourage host families to enjoy dinners together, talk story with their students, introduce them to friends and family, take time to learn about them and most importantly, have fun! We provide activities for the students three days a week throughout their stay; some of which our families can join in on (ticket prices not included.) Activities for the students include: surf lessons, Molokini snorkeling trip, canoe paddling, hiking, Iao, Hana, Haleakala Luau and more! Enjoy spending time with your student on non-excursion days and evenings getting to know one another. We have a welcome and farewell party planned for everyone involved in the program. These events are a great way to meet other local families and spend time with your student(s).
Our summer hosting program is just 3 weeks long but the experience does not end there! Families and students can stay connected after the students leave over the phone, through social media and letters; some families have already visited their past student in France and some students have traveled back to stay with their past host family!

Host Family Responsibilities:
· Provide three meals for your student(s) per day during their stay.
· Bring your student to and from drop off / pick up location in Kihei on days that ACE International has activities planned (usually Mon, Wed, Fri).
· Provide a safe home environment for your student; sharing a room is fine but students must have their own bed (if you do not have an extra bed ACE will help provide one).

Referral Program:
Our program relies on community involvement. We donate $25 to each person who refers a host family that hosts a student with us. Ask us how to become a part of the ACE team and earn an additional $25! Also If you have e-mails or phone numbers for friends or family on Maui (July 2nd- – 23rd) or Oahu (July 30th – August 20th) who you feel would enjoy hosting a French student for three weeks, please refer them to us. We will contact them and provide them with information about becoming a host family. Once a family decides they want to host we will match them with a student who fits in well with their family.

*We are currently seeking to fill volunteer and paid positions amongst our ACE Team. Please e-mail us if you are interested in assisting with this summers Homestay Program.

FAQ:
~ How do we find the right student for our family?
When you contact us we will take note of the activities your family is interested in and ask you a few questions such as would you like to host a girl or a boy? Would you like to host 1 or 2 students? in order to match you up with the right student. ACE International receives personal letters, a list of interests and photos from each of our students which allows us to pair students up with the right family based on similar interests. Once your family is paired with a student you will have the opportunity to contact your student and their family before they arrive.
~ What if I don’t have any kids?
We have found that great families come from many different types of homes. The students are very respectful, well-traveled and enjoy conversing with adults. The students will also have an opportunity to make new friends their age while on the activities.
~What if I work?
No problem, often times other host families can spend time with your student or other arrangements can be made. Also students like to relax on their non-activity days because of all the exciting activities we have planned during their stay. The students are allowed to stay at your house while you are gone, even if they are alone.
~How will we communicate with our student?
Most of the students have been studying English for years but if you are having a difficult time translating anything we have a French Chaperone who will be there to assist in translating. Translation books, apps and online websites are also a great way to communicate. Otherwise, the students are here to learn and practice speaking English and it is ok to correct them or give them more challenging questions / conversations.
