“I’m bored”

Those two words are enough to make any mom or dad want to pull their hair out. But with nearly 100 days of summer vacation, they are words that we will all probably hear at least once (ok, probably a lot more than once)

Here are some super fun and easy things to keep those “I’m bored” blues out of summer vacation.

Go on a photo tour

Grab an old iPod, camera or buy a disposable one and let your kids go on a walking photo tour. This can be done anywhere – the beach, on a hike, or even just around town. It’s always fun to see what your kidlets think is cool enough to take a picture of.

Beach it and try new one

Make a list of the beaches on Maui that you haven’t yet visited or ones that you love but may be on the other side of the island. Go visit one a week to spice summer up.

Treasure hunt of seashells

Create a list of shells for your little ones to look for. They can be little pukas, seaglass of different colors or cats eye. Or have them go on a treasure hunt of hearts. See how many shells or rocks they can see that are in the shape of a heart. This is always fun.

Hiking

Get them walking. The exercise, outdoor air and exploring will rid them of any summer boredom blues. Make sure to bring plenty of water and make it more fun by making it a photo walk or treasure hunt (see ideas above).

Get crafty

Grab some craft paper and hang sheets on your fence outside. Let the kids go crazy and paint until their hearts desire. Or grab some sidewalk chalk and let them make a new masterpiece each day. At the end of the day take a photo to preserve it and then just wash it away with the hose. SB
