Kayaks provide a lot of entertainment, coordination, physical exertion, and education for children. Just trying to keep a kayak moving in a straight line will give two people 15 minutes of laughs and jumping off for a “look around” with a mask and snorkel is a must. Borrow a plastic “scupper” from a friend or rent one from shop in Kihei or Lahaina. Of course, mornings always have the best conditions, as the afternoon trades can make the ocean rough, so get out there early. South and West Maui are best for beginners: Makena Landing, Ahihi Bay, Oluwalu or Black rock.  Remember to wear life jackets (it’s the law), bring snorkel gear, sunscreen, and water.
